Your Body Knows The Way: Kinesiology Explained

Kinesiology is such an effective modality, when I first came across it I thought it was the bees knees…and obviously still do! I think it’s a bit of a shame that more people don’t know about it, and hopefully this will change. I also think it may not be as known due in large part to the confusion around its name. Is it energy healing? Or some sort of movement-based therapy? How can kinesiology support you?

I thought it would be helpful to put together a post explaining it as thoroughly as possible. Here goes and enjoy!

What exactly is kinesiology?

Kinesiology is a holistic therapy based on Eastern energetic systems of healthcare and Western knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

Kinesiology developed from the medical model where it is defined as the study of human movement. There can often be some confusion here as people expect the kinesiology I practice to be similar to physical therapy, which isn’t the case.

As an energy kinesiologist, I use gentle muscle monitoring to locate and defuse energetic stress.

Our muscles are connected to our brain and nervous system. This biofeedback tells us about energetic blocks and imbalances that are often beyond our awareness. This direct line of communication tells us what your body needs to heal and transform physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Kinesiology is used to release stress, optimise the body’s natural healing process and achieve your maximum potential for health and well-being.

It’s important to note that it does not pretend to heal or cure.

However, by removing stress stored in the body from the cellular to spiritual level, kinesiology allows for a natural, innate healing process to take place and give you back a chance at the best quality of life you can achieve.

So, you use muscle monitoring (or muscle “testing” as it’s sometimes called) to locate stress…then what?

I use muscle monitoring and intuition as my guide to locate energetic stress. I also use it to see what’s needed to defuse the stress and bring your body back into balance. Depending on what your body needs, I will often use sound therapy (mainly in the form of meridian turning forks), light therapy (both white and colored light), talk therapy, gentle acupressure, affirmations, flower essences, and essential oils. Depending on the individual and the specific issue or intention of the session, I may work on a range of areas: from specific muscles, meridians to chakras (major, minor and celestial) to specific neuro-emotional pathways.

Some kinesiologists offer sessions remotely online (like I do). Since energy is not limited by time or space, I’ll be able to defuse energetic stresses for you—given your consent—no matter where you are in the world.

Are there different types of kinesiology?

Yes, there are! The type I practice is called Neuroenergetic Kinesiology (NK), developed by Hugo Tobar. It is an extremely prolific system that incorporates an understanding of anatomy, physiology and neurology. NK offers powerful techniques for accessing and defusing stress in the nervous system and is designed to address imbalances in energetic structures like chakras and meridians.

Check out the Kinesiology Federation for descriptions of other kinesiology modalities.
