Things To Say Instead Of "Don't Cry"

Let’s change the culture around tears. 🥲

Instead of responding with “don’t cry” in the face of tears (from both children and adults alike) try these alternatives:

Sometimes being present with another one’s tears can be extremely challenging, especially if our crying wasn’t accepted when were children, or we weren’t allowed to cry as much as we needed. As parents and caregivers, we can seek to resource ourselves by getting in touch with our own feelings, having a cry ourselves or even better, expressing how we feel when our child cries in the empathic presence of another.

If listening to big feelings is difficult for you, I’m here to help. Schedule an Aware parenting support session here.

Much love and healthy un-hurting,
